PARS Data Submission Guide
Welcome to the Passive Acoustic Reporting System (PARS) Data Submission Guide. This guide provides instructions and templates for submitting passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) detection data and associated metadata to PARS and for display on the Passive Acoustic Cetacean Map (PACM). For more information about PARS, please see the PARS homepage.
Current version is v1.0.0
Latest changes:
- Initial release of the PARS templates and submission guide.
PARS is not intended for 24-hour reporting of real-time North Atlantic right whale (NARW) detections. To report real-time NARW detections, please refer to the Template Datasheet For Real-Time North Atlantic Right Whale Acoustic and Visual Observation Data for the Real-Time NARW Reporting Template and reporting instructions.
What is PARS?
PARS is a centralized data repository for PAM acoustic detection data of marine mammals and other species. Built and managed by the Passive Acoustics Branch at the Northeast Fisheries Science Center, PARS was created to support collaborative scientific research, management, and public awareness of marine species through the use of PAM technologies.
All data submitted to PARS will be publicly displayed on the Passive Acoustic Cetacean Map (PACM) and also accessible by request through the North Atlantic Right Whale Consortium (NARWC). NOAA scientists can also be granted access to the PARS database for research and management purposes. In the event PARS data are used in any product generated by NOAA scientists, the data contributors will be properly acknowledged and cited for their contributions. For more information about data attribution and citation, see the FAQ.
For more information about PARS, the submission process, and how data in PARS is used, please also see the PARS homepage.
